Introducing Dr Linnea Person, D.C.

Dr. Linnea Person, D.C. and Mollie

When I was 9 I fell off my pony and blacked out, and developed neck pains and headaches. My mom had just started chiropractic care for her own neck problems, so she decided to have me try chiropractic too. She was a nurse working at the local hospital and noticed that traction didn't seem to help much long term for neck and back issues, so when she developed a stiff neck, she literally snuck over to the local chiropractor's. He was in his late 60's and was a retired milkman who went to Palmer with his son, and practiced in his later years. He was an excellent adjustor and was the epitome of an ideal grandfather figure.

I always wanted to be a nutritionist and called a fairly well known dentist who healed himself of the final stages of pancreatic cancer, Dr. Kelly, and asked him how to do what he did. He told me to "get some letters behind your name", and recommended chiropractic college. When I was in 6th grade my older brother had aspirations to become a DC so we traveled to Palmer at Homecoming and I remember thinking, "there is no way I could ever want to do this". I went to college to be an interpreter in Spanish, but decided while studying in Madrid in the summer of 75 that was not my calling.

When I got into clinic at Palmer I knew I had found my life purpose, and haven't ever regretted a moment.

My perception of chiropractic was rather broad and "mixer" because my student doctor at Palmer who pushed me to become a DC was very much into Applied Kinesiology, and helped me immensely. He went on after graduation to work for Dr. George Goodheart. Headache? no problem.. PMS? Same. Better nutrition? It was incorporated into the program.

As mentioned above, I had 4 years of Spanish in high school and was focused on becoming an interpreter at the UN. I went to Augustana College in the Quad Cities and then to a 6 week summer school program in Madrid where my professor didn't speak a word of English, and we sat looking at Roman aqueducts studying Spanish history. The only challenge was we were above the dorm kitchen and daily almost were overwhelmed with the garlic smell as they prepared lunch!! I always enjoyed anatomy so decided when I came back from Spain to apply at Palmer. Of course my student doctor influenced me at a vulnerable moment.

My most difficult aspect of practice is caring for patients more than they do and forgetting to ask not tell! I truly do care for my "family members" and with my personality profile tend to look to "what is BEST for this patient". When my friend Trixie from church came to me as a doctor and wouldn't go see a specialist in time to catch her brain tumor, that was very hard to watch. She passed away 8 months later.

I absolutely LOVE to ride my horse, or any other person's horse!! Currently I am barrel racing and love the challenge. Like most other sport, it is much harder than it looks! Part of riding is working on me, and part on the horse, no matter how well trained. I also run about 12 miles a week, and compete in 5Ks about once a year. Last year I won first in my age category, and this year second. Oh yes, last year I was the only one in that age category!!

My church is very important to me, as well as my 5 pound Yorkie Mollie.

Dr Person Asks some important questions of interest to Mendota residents - Chiropractor Mendota Dr Person Asks...

Where do most Mendota residents get their first subluxation?
Being born in a hospital is a common source of subluxation. Trauma from forceps delivery has been replaced with drugs, vacuum extraction, Cesarean section and births that are "scheduled" to fit the workweek routines of Ob-Gyns. That's why we recommend a chiropractic checkup for every Mendota newborn.
Can a chiropractor heal?
There's never been a case in which a doctor (chiropractor or otherwise) has formed scar tissue, mended a broken bone or cured a headache. Only you can do that. Turns out you're the doctor! All I do is help remove interferences to your body's healing ability. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
